Take Note What you should know about sugary drinks and diabetes

According to a study published in the British Medical Journal, being overweight and inactive are likely to play a stronger role in diabetes.

The negative effect of sugary drinks cannot be overemphasised, amongst other things it has been attributed to being a cause of type 2  diabetes.
But there are lot more things to know about the effects of sugary drinks on the body.

  • According to a study published in the British Medical Journal, being overweight and inactive are likely to play a stronger role in diabetes.
  • Researchers at the University of Cambridge analysed 17 studies in the area and found a pattern which hinted that drinks with added sugar could be linked to an increased risk of diabetes, regardless of weight.
  • Researchers have also acknowledged that diabetes can be prevented by increasing physical activity and losing weight - which can include restricting sugary drinks.
  • More work has however been called for to understand the connection between sugary drinks and type 2 diabetes.
