A mentally challenged woman whose children abandoned her has committed suicide.

A 53-year-old woman, Amoke
Adeoko, must have thought that during her old age, her children would be
able to take adequate care of her but when such assistance was not
forthcoming, she decided to end it all by committing suicide.
The woman died after she into a 130 feet well in front of her compound at 5 Ajilekege Street, Pipeline Bus Stop, Idimu. Lagos.
The state Fire Service Director, Rasak Fadipe, said the tragic incident occurred
on the night of Friday, July 7, 2015, adding that the woman was brought
out from the well already dead around 11:05pm by firemen from the
Ikotun division, with support by Alausa Fire Station.
Fadipe
said that residents felt the woman could have developed some mental
challenges after she had been abandoned by her children.
“The
woman was said to be in control of one of the storey buildings in the
compound which her late husband left behind for her. But her children
abandoned her because of her state.
On
Friday, one of her children was said to have come around the house and
brought a gift for her. Unknown to him, the woman cited him from afar
with the man sending the gift to her through somebody else and did not
come to see her.
Seeing that, the woman deliberately jumped into the deep well and was brought out dead.”
